For 20-year-old Sharon Yu, a little dose of fun is an important ingredient in what she does. An Advertising senior at the De La Salle University in Manila, Sharon makes sure that she enjoys what she is doing. "Most of the time, I forget I'm a student because the best part about my course is essentially about taking ‘fun' seriously," she says. Her choice of career gives her a venue to take all her creative ideas and put them to good use. "And maybe get applauded for them," she smiles.
But will she still have fun when it comes to dealing with numbers? Surprisingly, yes. "I love Accounting," she gushes. "I have a theory that inclination to Math or numbers is a gift a lot of Chinese people have. But don't get me wrong, it's not something I could ever do for a living."
Sharon has already modelled for many commercials and a myriad of fashion editorials. Moreover, college basketball fanatics should be very familiar with this pretty lass as she's the Green Archers' courtside reporter in the last UAAP season.
Sharon credits her parents Cesar Yu and the former Elena Santiago for the values she keeps to this day. "I don't drink, I don't smoke," she proudly declares. "It's an achievement because one would naturally compromise one's principles when immersed in different crowds. But I strive to be a good influence if I can." She values her family more than anything else in the world and goes on sharing that they are a family of singers.
This cutie also plays the piano and the guitar. Sharon also shares a part of her growing up years: "I spent most of my childhood being a dude, in terms of what I loved to do - I do target shooting with my brother, do wall climbing, rappelling, graphic arts and all that jazz." But her interest veers towards health and nutrition. "My friends know I'm a health buff. I manage to memorize the nutrition contents of many of the food we love to eat!"
Sharon believes that there is always something that a person wants to do and the only person stopping him is himself. Herself a go-getter, she ends with this nugget of wisdom: "Ask guidance from God to help you find your direction, keep your friends close, your family closer and don't ever forget the people who helped you along the way." - Jerni May H. No doubt, the La Salle-Ateneo rivalry is the country's fiercest, most heated and most long-standing rivalry not only in collegiate basketball, but also in the entire local basketball scene. Dating back to the 70s when the two teams were still battling it out in the NCAA, which came before the birth of the UAAP, La Salle and Ateneo games have always been tagged a classic. Thus, in every La Salle-Ateneo game in the UAAP, it's as if the majority of our countrymen freezes and postpones their activities for a few hours just to zero in on their television sets, in the same magnitude as when each time Manny Pacquiao fights for the country's pride or when the President of the Philippines delivers a State of the Nation address (SONA).
It is because of this unparalleled intensity that I thought of doing a blog article about "Only During La Salle-Ateneo". Indeed, there are a lot of scenarios which only happen, or at least pre-dominantly happen, during La Salle-Ateneo games - be it on or off the hardcourt. The essence of every La Salle-Ateneo battle has reached to a level where both of the teams' players, their legions of fans including as well, enter into a different level of fan-hysteria. Yes, even those who are normally very apathetic to the Green Archers and the UAAP games in general suddenly becomes keenly interested on getting tickets prior to every La Salle-Ateneo battle just to be able to catch the fever and well, be part of the "in-crowd".
Having covered the UAAP season over the last few years, I have caught several unique pictures which would depict unique moments which only happen, or at least, most oftentimes happen, during La Salle contra Ateneo, which has been already branded "a scalper's delight".
Thus, in anticipation of the La Salle-Ateneo fever for UAAP Season 71, I would like to start this photo blog showcasing pictures of "It's Only During La Salle-Ateneo...", and will continue to be on the hunt for very distinct scenarios starting the very first Green vs. Blue game tomorrow.

Spitfire TY Tang will not only be missed by the La Salle Archers when the UAAP wars get going this month but also by several La Salle athletes whom he quietly and consistently helped the past five years.
Unknown to many, the 5-foot-7 Tang had given up his athletic scholarship grant plus his meal and dormitory allowances to some not-so-rich but deserving La Salle athletes since he was recruited into the team by coach Franz Pumaren in 2003.
Well-known for his competitive passion and big heart even during his high school days at Xavier School, Tang said he doesn't need those perks to keep him going and achieve his goal - to be part of a champion team.
For Tang, being part of the La Salle basketball team was more important than getting those privileges granted to athletic scholars of the school.
"For me, being part of a La Salle basketball team is already a big achievement at saka mas masarap ang feeling mo kapag nakakatulong ka sa iba," said the 23-year-old Tang, who helped the Taft-based squad win a couple of UAAP titles, including last year.
Besides, Tang was living comfortably in a regal home in Greenhills, San Juan and was driving then a trendy car - sometimes he has a driver of his own if there was a scheduled hard practice.
"Actually, it was the idea of my father (Rey) to give up my scholarship and other privileges as an athletic scholar para may makinabang namang iba," said Tang, who also played a key role in the last two championships of Harbour Centre in the PBL.
Tang doesn't know - until now - who benefited from his generosity but his charitable gesture even reached the Batangas province.
It was during Game 2 of the recent PBL best-of-five series between Harbour Centre and Hapee Toothpaste in Tanauan City where Tang's benevolence was talked about.
Actually, it was a priest from Batangas City who informed PBL Commissioner Chino Trinidad about it. "Apat na tao na rin po ang nabigyan ng tulong ng igive-up ko ang mga privileges ko. Sayang din naman kasi ang pagkakataon ng mga ibang naghihirap pero nagsisikap para makatapos. Isang karangalan na po sa akin ang maging student at athlete ng La Salle," said Tang in a text message. "Kahit na maliit na tulong lang po, masaya na rin po ang pakiramdam ko."
A former La Salle teammate also disclosed that the only concession Tang asked from school management for giving up his privileges is to give him several season tickets for his family.
"Ang alam ng marami ay mayroon siyang season ticket kasi mahilig manood ng basketball ang family niya," said Albert Tirona. "Pero late na namin nalaman na binigay na ni TY ang kanyang privileges as a scholar. Kahit ngayong sikat na siya, tahimik pa rin siya."
For his act, he received a Civic Consciousness Award from the PBL.
"Very seldom na mangyari itong ginawa ni TY but I hope other rich athletes will follow what TY did," said Trinidad.
Tang capped his stellar UAAP career by emerging as co-Finals MVP with Cholo Villanueva. He also won the Finals MVP when he led Harbour Centre to a stunning come-from-behind win over Hapee Toothpaste in the PBL Invitational Championship last December.
Though he doesn't need to play in the pro league to earn megabucks - his family being one of the biggest suppliers of electrical, cable and wires in the country, Tang hopes that he will be given a chance to strut his wares in the PBA in the coming season.
"Sana mabigyan din ako ng chance gaya ng binigay sa akin ng La Salle sa UAAP and Harbour Centre sa PBL," said the business management graduate.

MANILA, Philippines--It's always easy to pick the defending champion as the season's top seed.
But that isn't the case for the De La Salle Green Archers, who have been surprisingly rated as low as fourth by a couple of opposing teams.
Coach Franz Pumaren, though, knows exactly the reason behind the mercurial pre-season rankings.
"If you lose your top point guard in TY Tang and if you lose your clutch shooter in Cholo Villanueva, it's probably debatable," said Pumaren of his Archers' back-to-back title chances.
"We lost key personnel and also quality big men. I've seen a lot of areas we still need to work on. We're working on it, and hopefully, we'll be ready."
Yet even other squads agree that few teams can rebound from adversity like the Archers. Just last season, no one expected them to capture the crown a year after serving a one-year suspension from the league.
And the Archers pulled off the impressive feat by mowing down the erstwhile unbeaten University of the East in the best-of-three championship series.
"The competition will be tougher since we have well-balanced teams," said Pumaren.
There's no question that the Archers still remain loaded with the return of streaky shooter JV Casio along with lanky big man Rico Maierhofer and the recruitment of a bumper crop of rookies.
But Pumaren opted to be cautious with Casio and several other support cast coming off various injuries sustained during the summer. "Injured players are limited to certain activities, so hopefully, everyone will recover in time this season," said Pumaren, who will also welcome back PJ Walsham, James Mangahas, Peejay Barua, Simon Atkins and Bader Malabes.
Former La Salle Zobel standout Joshua Webb, grandson of former pro Freddie Webb, leads the freshman class that includes Manoj Kumar Chandumal, the reigning MVP in the Filipino Indian Basketball League; Jovet Mendoza of the National U Bullpups and LA Revilla of the San Beda Cubs, former Team B player Hyram Bagatsing and Japan-trained Maui Villanueva.

La Salle basketball has been synonymous to excellence. Bar none, the Green Archers have been the most prominent collegiate basketball team in the last two decades, starting from the Dindo Pumaren era down to now, the JV Casio era. Replacing Jong Uichico, who was a disappointment in the collegiate coaching ranks but eventually found his mark in the pro league, Franz Pumaren's installation as head coach in 1998 has enshrined La Salle as the most successful UAAP team in the 1990s and 2000s. (Sorry, Thomasians and Ateneans).
In fact, we can still count the number of times the Archers missed the UAAP finals in the last two decades on our fingers, which is a remarkable feat considering the new talents year in and year out.
Year in and year out, sports pundits always expect La Salle to be a contender in the UAAP, as it has brought home the crown to Taft Avenue for already NINE times since joining the UAAP in 1986. (Nine because we sincerely believe the 1991 and the 2004 jewels are still rightfully ours).
